UL, a global safety science company, and the National Cybersecurity Authority of Saudi Arabia (NCA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will see the two organisations work towards building a more secure cybersecurity system in Saudi Arabia.

Under the agreement, UL and NCA will work towards cooperation in helping the kingdom defend against cyber threats by assisting in developing a national framework for cybersecurity in alignment with the highest international standards.

Hamid Syed, vice president and general manager in the Middle East for UL and Dr Ibraheem Alfuraih, deputy governor for strategy and planning of the National Cybersecurity Authority signed the agreement. The signing ceremony took place at Ritz Carlton on the sidelines of the Global Cybersecurity Forum 2020 (GCF) in Riyadh.

Syed said: “In today’s highly connected digital age, strong public-private partnerships are critical to addressing cybersecurity threats through science to inform policies.”

“Working together, we will be able to capitalise on each of our strengths and expertise to address challenges arising from cyber threats and secure cyberspace for individuals and businesses alike,” Syed added.

“We look forward to collaborating closely with the NCA to assist them in developing cybersecurity frameworks and policies, applying our strong expertise in what is a key area of focus for governments around the world,” he concluded.

Governor of the National Cybersecurity Authority Dr Khalid Alsabti said: “Considering the steady growth in the cybersecurity capabilities of Saudi Arabia, we must utilise our expertise to benefit the global community and to set up the appropriate standards, procedures and awareness campaigns to protect children in cyberspace.” – TradeArabia News Service
